The eclectic styled Hotel Ambos Mundos opened its doors in the late 1920’s and since then has become an intimate and cosy landmark that stands out amongst all Havana Hotels due to its history. In the early 1930’s, the American writer, Ernest Hemingway, dwelled in the room 511 in this hotel, he wrote the first draft of For whom the bell tolls since he found the hotel “a good place to write”.

The magnificent Ambos Mundos Hotel counts over 50 rooms. The double or twin beds and its furnishings are modern and the cream-tiled bathrooms are neat and clean. 36 of the standard rooms have matrimonial beds and the other 13 are twin bedded.

The Hotel Ambos Mundos offers one of the few venues in the Old Town for meetings. It is equipped with all kinds of audio-visual means, including video, datashow projectors and acrylic whiteboards. Besides, it works constantly as an art gallery since the beginning of the works by Jorge Caunedo, the contractor and the architect who modernized the hotel.

In addition to this indispensable place we can find the Letr?n saloon with 20 sq m and capacity for 12 people at a rectangular table, especial for close in doors business meetings, dinners and private gatherings considering that it can be equipped with the audio-visual means mentioned above.

Perhaps one of its best attributes is its roof terrace overlooking the skyline of Havana’s Old Town most impressive architecture as well as the channel leading to Havana’s bay, Plaza de Armas Square and some of the oldest fortresses in Cuba.

If you are looking for a good hotel in Havana with small yet very comfortable and airy rooms; whose rates are not too expensive then I strongly recommend the Ambos Mundos Hotel. Its location, service and rooms put Ambos Mundos Hotel at the top of the list of the best hotels in Havana. The fact that the American writer Ernest Hemingway stayed in this hotel over 2 years also make it very appealing to travellers.
